What was the best thing about your time at Camp Onas?
"The Pioneer was great, and got me into backpacking, and I actually liked cleaning the bunk, which is very strange, because my own room is constantly a mess." |

FOR CAMPERS: TYPICAL DAY AT ONAS---TRY IT!!
A TYPICAL DAY AT CAMP ONAS:
7:30am
WAKE-UP: The first bell of the day...
8:00am
BREAKFAST: Cereal, fruit, french toast sticks, special Onas oatmeal...you name it!
TENT CLEAN UP / CREWS: Everyone pitches in to keep camp clean. Besides spending a time cleaning a different part of camp each day, every tent cleans and straightens up their bunk. Sue (The Camp Director) inspects the tents and reads the results at lunch; there is a daily competition for the best tent!
9:15am
FIRST PERIOD: At assembly we find out what the activities will be. Campers choose where to go each period. We sing camp songs at assembly, and the counselors sometimes do really crazy things to get you to come to their activities!
SECOND PERIOD: There are always lots of different activities to pick from. Just a few examples are: softball, arts & crafts, swimming lessons, feed the animals, leprechaun houses, earthball...etc.
12:00pm
LUNCH: Back to the dining hall for grilled cheese, hoagies, cheese steaks or maybe tacos! After the meal we sing a song or two and find out the results of Tent Inspection.
REST HOUR: A break during active Onas days is essential! Rest hour is a time to hang out quietly in your bunk and read, write letters, play cards, or nap.
1:50pm
THIRD PERIOD: More great activities like letter writing, copper enameling, water polo, hunter, lacrosse and creek walk!
FOURTH PERIOD: And don't forget archery, barn games, street hockey, ultimate Frisbee, leaf prints, reading, and drama games. The list goes on and on and on....!
4:00pm
FREE SWIM: The pool is open during free swim for anyone who wants to go swimming. Play in the shallow end with your friends, or jump off one of our two diving boards!
FREE TIME: You can hang out in your tent, play air hockey or board games in the Texas Room, go fishing at the pond, play basketball in the barn...just about anything you can think of doing with your friends.
6:00pm
DINNER: Lasagna, chicken nuggets, wing dings, macaroni & cheese, or spaghetti, plus a great salad bar every single night! After dinner we sing, hear announcements, find out our crews for the next day, and where Evening Activity will be. Then we have mail call and free time!
7:30pm
EVENING ACTIVITY: A time when the whole camp gets together to do something really fun like tent skit night, prisoner's base, a campfire, the dance, capture the flag, or pool party...followed by ice cream, cookies, or another small snack!
BED TIME: Some tents play an end-of-the-day game like "Rose & Thorn;" some counselors read to the bunk. You might even get to go stargazing one night at bedtime!
