News

Announcement from the Friends Camp Association Board of Directors:
It is with great respect and admiration that we bring you the news that Sue Gould has decided to retire as Director of Camp Onas at the end of the summer of 2012. Under her 16 year directorship, Camp Onas has continued to develop in its commitment to core Quaker values. Working with the Board of Directors, Sue has made the camp population more diverse, expanded the financial aid program, adapted the facilities for greener use, and made Camp Onas more financially stable with increased off-season programming and a conservation easement. As hundreds of alumni will attest, she and her staffs created a camp experience that was safe, meaningful, and fun. We are truly sorry to see her depart. The Board has named a transition committee and it is working closely with Sue to plan for the transition to new leadership at Camp Onas. We expect to hire a new Director before the 2012 camp season, and this will enable him or her to overlap with Sue’s last summer and receive on-the-job training. Camp Onas is in great shape and we are confident that we will be able to establish new leadership that will help us continue to evolve and grow into the future. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Clerk of the Transition Committee, Beth Taylor at 215.822.2299.

Service Opportunities

Have a talent, skill or passion that you would love to share with campers? Of course you do - you are a Camp Onas alum! We are looking for Onas alum who would like to spend some time with our campers teaching a skill or leading activities not commonly included in our daily program. It could be a performing art such as dance, music, film making; a fine art or craft such as painting, jewelry making, pottery; or a sport or outdoor skill such as frisbee golf, shelter building, or edible plants. The lenght of time would be determined by you and could be from a day to a week. Contact Sue at 610-847-5858 if you have an idea. Together, we will develop a program that will be as enjoyable for you to teach as for our campers to learn.
